Marion trained at Guy’s and spent six years restoring smiles in a trauma unit before deciding she wanted to build them slowly instead. She has planned every veneer case that has left this building — one thousand nine hundred and counting — and still photographs each finished smile herself, because the last look in the mirror is the whole point of the job.

Jonas placed his first implant in 2003 and has been quietly refusing to rush them ever since. Patients arrive with folders of other practices’ refusals; he reads every page, then usually finds a way. His full-arch patients have one thing in common — they all describe the surgery afterwards as ‘weirdly uneventful’.

Amara moves teeth for people who would rather nobody knew — barristers, broadcasters, and one sitting judge she is contractually forbidden from naming. She reviews every simulation twice: once for the teeth, once for the face around them. Her waiting list is the practice’s worst-kept secret.

Ms Ilse Ostrowska has layered porcelain for thirty-one years, the last fourteen of them exclusively for this practice. Every veneer and crown that leaves Lumen passes through her hands — checked against your skin, in daylight, while you wait with coffee. She has rejected work the dentists thought was finished. They have learned not to argue.
